Gwinnett Technical College Receives Operating Room Equipment from Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Inc.

Intent on helping train the next generation of surgical professionals, Karl Storz Endoscopy-America, Inc. has donated operating room equipment to Gwinnett Tech’s Surgical Technology program. This generous gift is essential as students learn surgical procedures and today's technology to efficiently, effectively and safely assist surgeons and surgical teams.

"We are thrilled to receive this equipment. It is critical to the education of our students – and to quality patient care - that they train on the very latest operating room technology," stated TC Parker, surgical technology program director. The newly donated equipment mirrors that found in operating rooms across the country.  In the Gwinnett Tech surgical suites, students gain knowledge and hone their skills through simulation surgical procedures such as a cholecystectomy (gallbladder) and appendectomy (appendix).

"Storz is committed to education and life-long learning. Through our partnership with Gwinnett Tech, we help ensure students learn on up-to-date equipment and benefit from the latest technology possible," stated Crit Fisher, Karl Storz representative.

Equipment donated to Gwinnett Tech includes an endoscope, flat screen monitor, light source, camera processor, camera head and light cord. Gwinnett Tech’s Surgical Technology program has a 100% pass rate on the National Certification Exam, earning the Certified Surgical Technologist credential awarded by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. The job market looks positive for professionals in this field.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts a 15% job growth for surgical technologists from 2014 - 2024. Graduates of Gwinnett Tech’s Surgical Technology program enjoy careers in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and within physician groups.
