Gwinnett Tech Ranked among Nation's Top 100 Associate Degree Producers in Computer and Information Sciences

Gwinnett Tech is one of the nation's top producers of associate degree graduates in Computer and Information Sciences. GTC ranks 31st among two-year colleges in Community College Week (CCW) magazine's Top 100 for 2013.

Gwinnett Tech awarded 110 associate degrees in computer science fields in 2013, up 11-pecent over the prior year. The online version of the magazine can be viewed at:

"The ranking is gratifying because it speaks to our mission of educating and training graduates for the workforce.  We're focused on helping our students be successful, both here at Gwinnett Tech in earning their degree and as they finish college and start their career. Our computer sciences program is one of largest and our graduates are in high demand by the region's technology employers," said Dr. Victoria Seals, vice president of academic affairs.

In addition to the hands-on learning students gain in class and computer labs, Gwinnett Tech provides significant opportunities for students to add real-world experience to their resume before graduation. Dean of Computer Sciences Rita Patel has implemented an internship program that places students with top regional companies to gain valuable work experience. Noteworthy companies employing CIS student interns recently include NCR, CNN, Sports Challenge Network, StarGate Technologies, Careerbuilder, Encompass Digital Media, Rojoli Technologies, and Viewpoint Health.

"We have an internship committee made up of faculty and staff from Computer Sciences and Career Services, as well as industry partners, which works to place students," says Patel. "Even then, students must showcase their competitive edge when interviewing with their potential employer and document the challenges ahead."

Students with at least a 3.0 GPA who have completed the course prerequisites for their specific program may apply for a CIS Internship. Students who successfully complete the program receive college credit as well as establish professional relationships and contacts with future potential employers for possible full time positions. Moreover, the chance of obtaining a full time position increases by more than 40% upon the completion of the CIS Internship.

Gwinnett Tech offers an associate degree and diploma in computer programming, game development, information security specialist, internet specialist-web site design and networking specialist with a concentration in CCNA, Windows, and Linux/Unix. In addition, the program offers certificate options in almost a dozen specific disciplines such as Cyber Crime Specialist, Data Center Specialist, CCNP, Java and more.

In all, GTC offers more than 50 degree, diploma and certificate student options that can be completed in two years or less. For more information, visit or call 770-962-7580.
