GTC’s Business and Finance Division Hosts Executive Lecture Series
Series Kicks Off with Speakers from the Securities and Exchange Commission

Gwinnett Technical College will launch its new Executive Lecture Series with two guests from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Dr. Michael Ashmore, administrative officer and Mark Wszolek, staff accountant, will present “Who We Are and What We Do” on Mon., Feb. 2, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Busbee Center Auditorium (Building 700).

This is the first event in the series, hosted by the college’s Business and Finance Division. “We’re bringing in executive-level managers to speak primarily about what’s going on in the business world,” said Jermaine Whirl, dean of Business and Art & Design.

“The speakers from the SEC will talk about the role of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and current issues related to fraud in the U.S., among other topics,” added Whirl.

The series is predominantly aimed at students in marketing, accounting, hotel, restaurant and tourism management, and any discipline in business management. All lectures are free and open to all faculty members, staff and students – and the general public.

“This semester, in particular, we are focusing on financial markets. We’re bringing speakers from the SEC and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta to educate us about what those institutions do and to speak about some hot topics and issues and concerns within the U.S. economy,” said Whirl.

The goal of the series is to educate and connect students to business enterprises. Students will also learn about career opportunities and possible internships from prominent institutions in the financial sector.

“Opening the doors, leveraging our relationship with these organizations and creating networks is what we’re trying to do,” said Whirl.
