Admission Requirements

You're ready to apply, but there are a few details and requirements to take care of first. Are you old enough? Do you have the right education credentials? Do you have the test scores that you need?

Age Requirements

You must be at least 16 years of age to apply, and several programs have higher age requirements. Cosmetology and health program applicants must be at least 17. Paramedic technology applicants must be 18 years old upon completion of the program.

Students participating in the Dual Enrollment program must be a minimum of age 14 by the first day of the semester; be approved and classified as a 9th, 10th, 11th and/or 12th grader by an eligible high school and meet all other Gwinnett Tech admissions requirements.

Education Requirements

The minimum education requirement for all programs of study is a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED®) diploma. If you need to earn your GED®, Gwinnett Tech serves as a GED® test center and offers GED® test preparation services.

Test Requirements

We accept a variety of entrance exams, and the exam/score that you need depends on the program to which you want to apply.

With your educational goals in mind, review our test requirement information to see which test/score is needed for you.

If you apply to an associate's degree, diploma or certificate program, you must take Gwinnett Tech's ACCUPLACER placement exam, unless you have acceptable SAT, ACT, CPE or ASSET scores taken within the past five years.

If your SAT, ACT, COMPASS, ASSET or CPE test scores are more than five years old, you will be required to take the ACCUPLACER exam unless courses transferred from other post-secondary institutions waive testing.

Gwinnett Tech's admission test (ACCUPLACER) minimums vary according to your program of study.

Elementary Algebra - 57

Minimum ACCUPLACER scores for certificate and diploma programs:

Some certificate and diploma programs also require an elementary algebra score (41).

Gwinnett Tech's admission test is administered in the Assessment Center, located in Building 100, Lawrenceville campus or Building A, Alpharetta-North Fulton campus, several times each week. If you wish to discuss exceptions to testing, you should contact the Admissions Office at 678-226-6616. Selected programs may also require additional testing or evaluation.

Information for taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT) program can be obtained from a high school counselor. Or, call the College Board at 609-771-7600 for SAT information or call ACT Records at 319-337-1320 for ACT information.

Residency Requirements

In order to qualify for the in-state tuition rate, you must have established domicile in Georgia and resided in Georgia for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the start date of the date of the term you intend to enroll. You must also be either a US Citizen or a permanent resident alien with current I-551 or I-94 federal immigration documents. Applications in process for such documents will not be considered. Non-citizen aliens will be charged the foreign tuition rate if they fail to provide their original federal immigration documents prior to the first day of class of the term of admission.

It is the student's responsibility to provide the proper documentation to prove your residency status. Please refer to the residency documentation list for what is required for the appropriate proof of status.
